A & G Sledge (Miniatures) specialise in 1/12th scale furniture kits and dolls' house components made from high quality, closely grained wood, so finely milled it almost eliminates the need for sanding. All the knobs on all the doors and drawers are wooden. All wood used comes from managed, sustainable plantations. The only additional item required to assemble the kits is some glue. No cutting of any wood is required. The kits can be finished with stains or paints or simply sprayed with satin finish lacquer to bring out a beautiful rich honey colour.Because the wood is such a finely grained hardwood, stains do not "wick in" on the end grain so there is little or no colour variation across the stained piece. Most of the joints are proper mortise and tennon type. Where there are spindles or round components, they generally fit into pre-drilled holes. This method of construction makes the kits easy to assemble as there is no doubt about where a part fits and it has the additional benefit that the finished joint has much more strength than a simple butt joint. |

The kits lend themselves to mixing and matching different pieces for greater individuality. Many of the pieces of furniture are suitable for use for a wide variety of dates depending upon what finish is applied. For instance the baby wardrobe can be used as an Edwardian gentleman's wardrobe by staining it a suitable walnut colour, a Victorian gentleman's wardrobe by staining it mahogany or as a modern child's wardrobe by either painting it white (or other suitable colour) or by leaving it natural. |
